I think the article's right on. The biggest disappointments seem to have come from overhyped episodes, and the overhyping comes from a marketing department that seems to have a disconnect from the writing and pacing of the show. They're probably doing more to create audience disillusionment than anything else. Really, the only ad we need is "LOST is on next week. 10 pm." We'll still watch!
